CHEM 2145 - Organic Chemistry I A study of fundamental concepts of organic structure and bonding, reactions of principal functional groups, mechanisms, and nomenclature of hydrocarbons and their derivatives. Laboratory emphasis is on purification, separation, synthesis and instrumental methods of studying organic systems. Students who wish to progress to the next course in the sequence, CHEM 2245 - Organic Chemistry II, must earn a “C” or above in CHEM 2145. Includes lab component.
