Medical Laboratory Technician Certificate (Phlebotomy) Program Map


To earn this Certificate of Achievement, you must achieve a minimum 2.0 (‘C’) grade point average on the courses listed below. After admission to the Phlebotomy program and before the semester starts, you must do the following: Meet with a financial aid counselor, if on financial aid. Complete all risk management requirements in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.), including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen. Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling and to file for graduation if completing the Phlebotomy Certificate. Graduation checks are often done as a group in class prior to beginning clinical.

First Semester


Review the admission requirements that are listed in the program requirements.  You’ll find this information on the Phlebotomy webpage. Admission is by application only so you must fill out an application.  Applications are viewed year-round for acceptance into the next available semester. To earn this Certificate of Achievement, you must achieve a minimum (‘C’) grade on all Phlebotomy Courses. 

After admission to the Phlebotomy program and before the semester starts, you must do the following:

  • Complete the Online Orientation material that is sent by the Program Director and return signed consent forms. 
  • Complete all risk management requirements in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.), including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen.
  • Meet with a financial aid counselor, if on financial aid.
  • Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling and to file for graduation if completing the Phlebotomy Certificate.  Graduation checks are often done as a group in class prior to beginning clinical.

Total Credit Hours: 6


The Phlebotomy Program is 3 courses totalling 6 credit hours.  These courses must be taken concurentlly and completed with a “C” or better to obtain the Certitcate from TCC and to be eligible for the ASCP Examination.  Exceptions to this may be allowed for students accepted into the AAS MLT Program, with Program Director Permission.
