Engineering AS, Computer Engineering Option

Program Description

This program comprises the first two years of coursework for a professional program in Computer Engineering (CE) at a four-year institution and lays the foundation for being a successful engineer.  Computer engineering is closely tied to electrical engineering although more emphasis is placed on computer hardware and software including microcontrollers which are used to support robotics and embedded designs. Along with introductory courses, you will take courses in the basic engineering sciences, physics, math and chemistry.

General Education Requirements Credit Hours: 21

Humanities 6 Hours

General Education Required Electives 3 hours


Select three (3) credit hours from courses in Fine Arts (Art, Music, Theatre), Foreign Language, Psychology, or Social Sciences.

Specialized Course Requirements Credit Hours: 40-45


Total Credit Hours: 61-65


  • Additional preparatory course work may be required if students do not meet a minimum placement score on a secondary placement test. In this case, the total credit hours required to complete the degree will exceed 66. If additional Math is required, it will fill any open General Education electives. If General Education electives have already been met, then this degree could require up to 71-72 hours to complete. See your academic advisor for more information.
