Engineering AS, Electrical Engineering Technology Option

Program Description

This program comprises the first two years of coursework for a program in electrical engineering technology at a four-year institution and lays the foundation for being a successful engineer. Electrical engineering technology uses an applied approach to design and development of new equipment. Laboratory experience at the associate level includes solid state amplifier design, system troubleshooting and robotics. Along with introductory courses, you will take courses in the basic sciences, physics, and math.

Communication 6 hours

History and Political Science 6 hours

POLS 1113 - American Federal Government
and select one course from the following:
HIST 1483 - U.S. History 1492 to the Civil War Era
HIST 1493 - U.S. History - Civil War Era to the Present

Humanities 6 hours

COMM 1113 - Public Speaking (may be required by transfer institution)
or select three (3) credit hours from courses in Fine Arts (Art, Music, Theatre), Foreign Language, Psychology, or Social Sciences.

Specialized Course Requirements Credit Hours: 43-44

Mathematics 8 hours

Sciences 8-9 hours

Select from the following science options based on transfer institution requirements.
PHYS 1114 - General Physics I (L)
Or
PHYS 2034 - Physics I with Calculus (L)
And select one of the following courses:
PHYS 1214 - General Physics II (L)
PHYS 2124 - Physics II with Calculus (L)
CHEM 1315 - General Chemistry I (L)
CHEM 1365 - General Chemistry for Engineers

Computer Information Systems 6 hours

Engineering and Electronics Technology 21 hours

Total Credit Hours: 64-65

Additional preparatory course work may be required if students do not meet a minimum placement score on a secondary placement test. In this case, the total credit hours required to complete the degree will exceed 65. If additional Math is required, it will fill any open General Education electives. If General Education electives have already been met, then this degree could require up to 69-70 hours to complete. See your academic advisor for more information.
