Milestones

• At Tulsa Community College, Art students begin their associates degree with Art Foundations. These courses are part of the required Core-Curriculum and the major pre-requisites to all other studio courses offered within the department.
• Regardless of the student’s preferred medium upon entry into the program, both 2D and 3D Foundations are critical for the development of the student artist.
• In these courses, students will learn to identify and apply effective compositional basics; practice craft and material manipulation; and develop multi-dimensional spatial awareness.
• Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
• To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted.  Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
• Download MS Office from MyTCC.
• Form a study group, join a student organization, or volunteer at a community service site.
• Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.
• Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester.
• Meet with your faculty mentor each semester.

Milestones

• Semester Two is a continuation of the required Art Core-Curriculum at Tulsa Community College.
• Students will examine visual art within historical and social contexts from the Paleolithic Period through the 14th century, introducing them to the cultural significance of art, as well as providing a theoretical foundation for the development of compositional and communication strategies.
• Second Semester studio courses will build upon the framework of Art Foundations by continuing studies in both 2D and 3D media. These studio courses focus on perceiving and translating the world in a visual manner. Students will practice transcribing ideas through various artistic processes. Craft and material manipulation will continue to be stressed.
• Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
• To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted.  Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
• Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester.
• Meet with your faculty mentor each semester.
• Schedule a campus visit with your transfer institution’s student recruitment office.
• Visit Career Services by your 20th credit hour to explore career opportunities associated with this degree.

Milestones

• Semester Three is a continuation of the required Art Core-Curriculum at Tulsa Community College.
• Students will continue their examination of visual art within historical and social contexts from the 14th through the 20th centuries, furthering their understanding of the cultural significance of art, and building upon their theoretical foundation of compositional and communication strategies.
• Semester Three studio courses will reinforce and expand upon the color theory covered in Art Foundations and skills developed in Semester Two. Students will practice various ways of creating compositions and continue their exploration of technical concepts. Additionally, students will focus on creative research and portfolio development. Craft and material manipulation will continue to be stressed.
• Students should plan to take Professional Practice during their Third or Fourth Semester of the Art Degree:
  • If a student plans to transfer after their Third Semester, it is recommended they take Professional Practice now.
  • If a student chooses to wait until Semester Four to take Professional Practice, they should take one of their Art Elective credits during Semester Three. (See Semester Four for Art Elective information).

• To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted.  Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
• Meet with an academic advisor for a graduation check and to complete a Petition for Computer Proficiency if needed.
• Meet with your faculty mentor each semester.
• Complete applications for admission and financial aid for the four-year institution to which you plan to transfer.
• Visit Career Services to build your resume.

• IF a student has not completed Professional Practice during Semester Three, they must complete the course during Semester Four.
• During Semester Four the Art Department highly encourages students to use their electives to expand their artistic knowledge and skillsets by selecting from the following studio courses for their Art Elective credits:

Figure Drawing I, Printmaking I, Introduction to Ceramics, Metal Arts and Jewelry I, and/or Photography.

• OR, students have the option to continue with the following courses for their Art Elective credits:

Drawing II, Sculpture II, Figure Drawing II, Printmaking II, and/or Metal Arts and Jewelry II. 

• Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
• To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted.  Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
• Meet with an academic advisor to file for graduation.
