Medical Laboratory Technician AAS Program Map

AAS in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Introduction

This degree map provides the semester-by-semester course sequencing a full-time student will follow to complete this degree. To earn an Associate in Applied Science degree you must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 as a minimum on all coursework required for the degree. Note the Milestones below each semester. Milestones are reminders of actions you should take during that semester to help keep you on track for degree completion.

**Please not that TCC’s MLT program is considered a 1+1 program. The first year is the prerequisite courses which are designed to be completed in one year on a full-time basis. However students can complete these on a part-time basis taking 2-3 classes a semester until they are complete. The 2nd year (MLT year) is considered full-time.

When applying for the MLT you are applying for acceptance into the 2nd year (MLT Year) and then it’s 13 months until completion and graduation.

It is highly recommended that once you are interested in MLT:  Contact the MLT Program Director,  Inform your assigned academic adviser,  apply to the MLT Program

Prerequisite Courses (List)

It is recommended that students complete all prerequisites before the start of the MLT program. However students can take 1 science course and 2 general non-science education courses while in the program.  This will increase course workload during the MLT program. Requirements outlined below:

  • Prerequisites: completion of (3 of 4) science general education and (2 of 4) non-science general education coursework  (science courses are:  BIOL1404, CHEM 1114, BIOL 1314, BIOL 2164) (non-science are: ENGL1113, ENGL1213, POLS 1113, HIST 1483 or 1493)
