Health Information Technology AAS, Program Map

This degree map provides the semester-by-semester course sequencing a full-time student will follow to complete this degree. The program may be completed on either a full or part-time basis, but must be completed in a maximum of three years. To earn the Associate in Applied Science degree, you must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 as a minimum on all coursework required for the degree. Note the Milestones below each semester. Milestones are reminders of actions you should take during that semester to help keep you on track for degree completion.

Total Credit Hours: 15
*These courses are prerequisites for several HITC courses; therefore it is important that they be completed early in the program.
Milestones
- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- All of the courses in the first semester must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
- Download MS Office from MyTCC.
- Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.
- All risk management requirements must be completed in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.) including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.

Currently HITC 1412 Professional Practice Experience I meets for a total of 16 days during working hours usually 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. At a minimum, students must be able to give three 5-day sessions (M-F) and a day for orientation. It is best if the student can be scheduled for one 5-day session and one 10-day session (M-F), plus a day for orientation.

- All of the courses in the fifth semester must be completed with a ‘C’ or better with the exception of POLS 1113 and HIST 1483 or 1493. Students must pass these courses and have an overall GPA of 2.0 to graduate from the program.
- All risk management requirements must be up to date in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.).
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.
- Meet with an academic advisor for a graduation check.

- Students may apply to sit for the national registry examination through AHIMA (www.ahima.org).
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- All of the courses in the sixth semester must be completed with a ‘C’ or better.
- Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to graduate from the program.
- Meet with an academic advisor to file for graduation.
