Health Information Technology Certificate, Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Program Map

This program map provides the recommended semester-by-semester course sequencing a full-time student will follow to complete this certificate. The program may be completed on either a full or part-time basis, but must be completed in a maximum of three years. To earn a Certificate of Achievement in this field of study, you must achieve a minimum 2.0 (‘C’) grade point average on the courses listed below. Note the Milestones below each semester. Milestones are reminders of actions you should take during that semester to help keep you on track for certificate completion.

Prerequisites
Students wishing to complete this Certificate within one-year (three semesters) must complete the following prerequisites with a grade of ‘C’ or better prior to beginning the program. Total Credit Hours: 10
*These courses are prerequisites for HITC 1362, HITC 1333, HITC 2053, HITC 2153 and must be completed with a “C” or better.
Milestones

- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- Download MS Office from MyTCC.
- Form a study group, join a student organization, or volunteer at a community service site.
- Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.
- Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester, or as needed.

- All of the courses in the first semester must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
- Take actions necessary to become compliant with all of the risk management requirements that must be completed in the second semester in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.), including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.

- If entering the workforce after graduation, visit Career Services to build your resume.
