Veterinary Technology AAS Program Map Full-Time

If you are a full-time student taking at least 12 hours per semester and follow this degree map, you can complete this associate degree in two years. See an academic advisor for a customized degree map that works for you (however, VETT course schedule is fixed).
- BIOL requirement must be completed prior to starting in the Fall VETT curriculum. Must have a grade of “C” or better.
- Background check and Drug Screening are required for admission to the VT Program, administered through the School of Health Sciences. Medical marijuana is not permitted, even if you have a medical card.
- Minimum GPA of 2.0
- Applications are due each April 30th, for starting the Program the following Fall semester.

Prerequisite Courses
BIOL 1414 or 1604 must be completed prior to starting the program. - The BIOL prerequisite can be taken during the spring semester of application or, the summer prior to starting the Fall VETT courses.
- Completion is required before full acceptance and full admission to the VT Program - students will not be permitted to start VETT courses in the Fall if BIOL is not completed with a grade of “C” or better. It is recommended to complete prior to application and before the summer.
- Career Shadowing is required with the application. Contact the VT Program for more information.
Chem & Math are no longer required for the AAS degree. Risk management requirments: - A Background check and Drug Screening are required for admission to the VT Program, administered through the School of Health Sciences.
- Medical marijuana is not permitted, even if you have a medical card.
- Most VETT courses are blended, and are Lecture/Lab. Laboratories are very hands-on.
- This is not a fully online Program, however, students should be capable of online learning.

First Semester - Fall
This new curriculum has reduced total credit hours. Courses have shifted from Fall to Spring semesters or vice versa. Some courses have reduced credit hours, some courses are deleted. Curriculum changes: total credit hours for degree = 60 (reduced from 70); General Ed credit hours = 19 (reduced from 23); VETT credit hours = 41 (reduced from 47). This permits a faster time to start the VT Program, faster time to graduation and fewer days on campus (allowing for outside work or other needs). Deleted the Part-time curriculum; only Full-time (5 consecutive semesters). - All BIOL, ALDH and VETT courses must pass with a “C” or better.
- All VETT courses are taught on West Campus at the Veterinary Technology Center.
- ALDH medical terminology is available at other campuses; must have a grade of “C” or better to continue in the VT Program.
Risk management (immunizations and testing) are required once fully admitted to the VT Program. Contact the VT Program for more information. Milestones

- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- Must have a GPA 2.0 for admission to the VT Program.
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all VETT courses.
- All BIOL, ALDH (medical terminology) and VETT courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
- All risk management requirements must be completed in preparation for the clinical setting (vaccinations, TB test, etc.), including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen prior to starting the program.
Time required outside of class: all VT-admitted students are required to participate with: - ACR’s (Animal Care Rotations) each semester, starting the first fall semester of the VT Program. This will require time outside of class, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends, 2-3 weeks per each Fall and Spring semesters.
- Grand Rounds, held twice monthly during Fall and Spring semesters.
- Animal Birthing Center at the Tulsa State Fair each Fall semester.
All transportation is the student’s responsibility (to/from West Campus, field trips or other). Mandatory advisement with your assigned TCC academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester. - Download MS Office from MyTCC.
- Form a study group, join a student organization, or volunteer at a community service site.
- Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.

- Practicum is approximately 40 hours/week for 8 weeks in an assigned veterinary hospital or facility.
- Practicum student should be prepared to not work a regular job; student should be prepared to not receive pay for the Practicum.
- All travel is the student’s responsibility.

- Students will apply for NVTE (National Veterinary Technician Examination) and State licensing, as assisted by the VT Program. Fees associated for each application are due at time of submittal.
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- All BIOL, ALDH and VETT courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
