Dental Hygiene AAS Program Map

This degree map provides the semester-by-semester course sequencing a full-time student will follow to complete this degree. To earn the Associate in Applied Science degree, you must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 as a minimum on all coursework required for the degree. Note the Milestones below each semester. Milestones are reminders of actions you should take during that semester to help keep you on track for degree completion. Upon degree completion, students will be eligible to take national and state licensing exams.

Milestones
- *It is recommended that general education courses are taken prior to acceptance into the program due to the rigor of the Dental Hygiene program. (*COMM 1113 Public Speaking, *PSYC 1113 Introduction to Psychology, SOCI 1113 Introduction to Sociology)
- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- Download MS Office from MyTCC.
- Form a study group, join a student organization, or volunteer at a community service site.
- Form a studey group for Dental Hygiene specific prerequisites (i.e. BIOL 1324 and CHEM 1134)
- Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.
- Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester.
- Meet with academic success coach to build a foundation of success and develop skills necessary to succeed.
- Meet with career services for dental hygiene shadowing and/or experience opportunities.
- Meet with career services for Dental Hygiene Program interview preperation.
First Semester (Summer) (after acceptance into the program)
Milestones
- Students must maintain a grade of ‘C’ or better to remain in the program.
- Students must meet all essiential skills and maintain competency throughout program.
- All risk management requirements must be completed in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, Vaccinations, Flu Shot, TB test, etc.) including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen.
- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- Meet with a School of Health Sciences academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester.

- Students must take didactic, laboratory and clinical courses as sequenced.
- Students must achieve a final course grade of ‘C’ or better to remain in the program.
- Students must meet all essential skills and maintain competency throughout program.
- Students must be current on all risk management requirements for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.) including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen.
