World Languages AA, Spanish Option Program Map

This is a degree plan for the Spanish Associate that you can complete in as early as four semesters (about two years). It outlines the courses to take each semester. It also includes helpful milestones, which are simple action steps to keep you on track. To earn the Associate in Arts degree, you will need at least a 2.0 (C) grade point average (GPA) in the required courses. It is important that you meet with an academic advisor to customize this plan to your schedule and goals
Students with prior Spanish experience are encouraged to ask their advisor about the CLEP or departmental placement exam to determine eligibility for credit and placement into a higher-level course.

Milestones
- Complete Elementary Spanish I with a ‘C’ or better or have instructor approval to progress to the next SPAN course.
- Connect with the World Languages Lab to explore tutoring services and receive individualized support in-person or online.
- Form a study group, in addition to accessing the services provided by the World Languages Lab, for additional support and practice.
- Ask your professors for tips on how to navigate and progress through your language-learning journey more efficiently.
- Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester.
- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted to maintain financial aid eligibility. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.

- Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester. The next course in sequence is Intermediate Spanish I, which can also be taken concurrently with Latin American Civilization and Culture.
- Schedule a campus visit with your transfer institution’s student recruitment office.
- Visit Career Services to explore career opportunities associated with this degree.
- Explore volunteer opportunities at a community service site, in addition to accessing the services provided by the World Languages Lab, for additional support and practice.

- If you successfully completed Spanish 1103, 1213 and 2113 with a C or better or took the CLEP/Departmental Exam – Congratulations! You earned a Microcredentials Badge. With this badge, you demonstrate the ability to communicate in Spanish at an elementary to early intermediate level. Share your badge with your employer, add it to your resume and/or post it on Linkedin
- Meet with an academic advisor before enrolling for the next semester. During this meeting: 1) ask about the Spanish Certificate and/or the Spanish Language Services Certificate as well as the possibility of earning Translating and/or Interpreting Microcredential(s); and 2) discuss your eligibility to file for graduation.
- Continue discussions with your transfer institution’s academic advising office. If suggested, complete applications for admission and financial aid for the four-year institution to which you plan to transfer
- Visit Career Services to build your resume if you are entering the workforce after graduation.
