SPAN 2473 - Medical Interpreting Skills Introduction

This course will address the attitudinal differences between the Latino and Anglo-American cultures and how they affect health care decisions. It will increase vocabulary needed to interpret for Spanish-speaking patients by using vocabulary related to illness and symptoms, necessary medical language, and cultural cues. Oral fluency in English and native/near-native fluency in Spanish is recommended. Students with advanced language experience are encouraged to take the CLEP exam to satisfy prerequisite requirements.

Prerequisite SPAN 2443  & SPAN 2453  with a grade of “C” or better, or instructor approval.
