Degree Map: Health Information Technology AAS

This degree map provides the semester-by-semester course sequencing a full-time student will follow to complete this degree. The program may be completed on either a full or part-time basis, but must be completed in a maximum of four years. To earn the Associate in Applied Science degree, you must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 as a minimum on all coursework required for the degree.
Note the Milestones below each semester. Milestones are reminders of actions you should take during that semester to help keep you on track for degree completion.
First Semester (Fall)
Milestones
- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- All of the courses in the first semester must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
- Download MS Office from MyTCC.
- Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.
- All risk management requirements must be completed in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.) including clearance on a national background check and negative drug screen.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.
Second Semester (Spring)

- All of the courses in the third semester must be completed with a ‘C’ or better.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.
Fourth Semester (Fall)

- All of the courses in the fourth semester must be completed with a ‘C’ or better with the exception of POLS 1113. Students must pass this course and have an overall GPA of 2.0 to graduate from the program.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.
Fifth Semester (Spring)

- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- All of the courses in the fifth semester must be completed with a ‘C’ or better with the exception of HIST 1483 or 1493. Students must pass one of these courses and have an overall GPA of 2.0 to graduate from the program.
- Meet with the HIT Program Director or a faculty member for advisement once a semester.
- Meet with an academic advisor for a graduation check.
Sixth Semester (Summer)
Milestones
- Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
- Students may apply to sit for the national registry examination through AHIMA (www.ahima.org).
- To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status.
- All of the courses in the sixth semester must be completed with a ‘C’ or better.
- Meet with an academic advisor to file for graduation.
