Program Description
At the TCC Riverside Community Campus and Aviation Center, the Aviation Sciences Technology AAS, Professional Pilot Option degree program combines flight training with academic study to provide a firm foundation in commercial aviation. The curriculum prepares students for FAA certification as a single or multi-engine commercial pilot, flight instructor, or for employment in aviation management. Our fleet includes Cessna 172S and Piper Seminole PA44-180 G1000 avionics equipped aircraft.
The curriculum includes both liberal arts, science, and technology education to include courses in mathematics, physics, communications, and aviation. Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills are developed via Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) simulations, navigation, and aircraft systems operation. Effective resource management, flight physiology and human factors, teamwork, and safety awareness are constantly emphasized throughout the curriculum. The TCC flight program is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 141 approved pilot flight school.
Degree Requirements
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Science may be attained in four semesters. To earn the degree, successful completion of a minimum of 60 credit hours is required. The purpose of the Professional Pilot option degree program is to prepare the graduate for a productive career as an independent flight instructor, commercial business operator, or professional airline pilot. Prior learning assessment is available towards AAS degree attainment for pilots with existing FAA Private Pilot, Instrument Pilot, or Commercial Pilot certifications.
FAA Exemption for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
Upon completion or all degree requirements, the TCC Professional Pilot option degree can qualify a graduate for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certificate under FAR 61.160. Note that satisfying the A.A.S. degree requirements alone does not qualify the graduate for the R-ATP. For detailed information, please contact the TCC Aeronautics Coordinator.
Professional Flight Training at Tulsa Community College
Flight training is a continuous process that normally begins sometime during the student’s first year of attendance and will progress until degree requirements are fulfilled. The curriculum is designed to allow students to meet core objectives in a reasonable amount of time.
Various factors influence students’ progress. These factors include student academic preparation, student availability, student determination and dedication, student finances, the availability of aircraft and instructor pilots, and the cooperation of the weather. Consequently, some students will finish before others.
The Aeronautics Coordinator can evaluate a student’s ground and flight training at other institutions for academic credit.
